Berlin was once a promise that smelled of old industrial buildings, basements, and dark machine halls. Himmel unter Berlin, act three, takes place within a nervous system. A network of vaulted cellars, branching out across several buildings as if the city had knotted itself underground.

A basement in Berlin where motors were wound for a hundred years. Copper wire, wrapped thousands of times around iron until it became something that spins loud and fast. Motors built for cement plants, steel rollers, pumps in waterworks—machines that drive other machines. In the catacombs of this old motor factory, a new Himmel unter Berlin is emerging.

For a short time, international light and sound artists are transforming these raw vaults. It is dark here. You see only what the artists allow you to see.

The artworks address the uncomfortable topics of our time: people in cryo-chambers, AI clones being created live, windows into the future. Works that blink, breathe, and emit smoke. And around the next corner, you find yourself in a star chamber or surrounded by machines performing a concert just for you.

Himmel unter Berlin is not a fixed location. No repetition. It is something between an exhibition and an underground gathering like in 90s Berlin. Raw, cold, improvised. The charm of the imperfect.

And somewhere deep in these cellars, you get the feeling of experiencing something that officially doesn't even exist.

This dark labyrinth shows: not many people were ever here. This was not a place for visitors, not a showroom. This was the area known only to the workers who wound the motors. A few dozen people in a hundred years, nothing more. Anyone walking through here today is entering something that was never meant to be seen.
