Ralf Schmerberg is an artist who deliberately crosses the boundaries of conventional art forms. Schmerberg does not commit to a single medium — instead, he continually explores new forms of art. In his latest project, Studio Plastic, Ralf Schmerberg shapes colourful landscapes out of found, stalactite-like plastic waste.
These bizarre forms emerge when plastic drips from machines and solidifies. Sometimes he leaves them just as they are — objets trouvés of the plastic age — and sometimes he reheats and reassembles them into figures, which are then arranged into grotesque family constellations and fantastical landscapes. Trash art that reflects the pressing environmental questions of our time with psychological depth and subtle humour.
